The SheltersThe Center of Hope is a homeless shelter for women and children, located in the Southwestern Medical District. It has been open since 2002. The shelter can house 235 women and children. Emergency shelter is available for a minimum of 90 days. A two-year rehabilitation program is made available to all.
Calvert Place is a homeless shelter for men, located near Southwestern Medical Center.
The ClinicsThe clinics at the shelters provide acute ambulatory care and point of care testing in order to reduce the burden of communicable disease. The staff at the clinics performs well child check ups, offers vaccines, TB screening and testing. The clinics link shelter residents to a Medical Home.
VolunteerUT Southwestern medical students have a unique opportunity to assist with weekly clinic activities and patient interactions. Volunteers
- take patient histories
- perform physical examinations
- present their findings to the clinic's physician
- educate patients about health
Calvert Place clinic is open on Tuesdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
